1. Behave. Under absolutely no circumstances should the lines between IC (In Character) and OOC (Out of Character) be crossed in play. You’ve got some issues? Keep them OOC. This is a game, we’re all here to have fun and be creative, and if you’ve got a problem with another player, overcome it. Seriously. Don’t bring any crap into this universe where it doesn’t belong, it brings everyone else down and can kill games. If you do have an issue and you do bring it into the game, you will be called on it. If you don’t get the message the first time, that’s it, you get the boot. No three strikes with this rule, people. We can’t stand it. Keep the drama IC, it’s more fun for everyone that way.
2. You must have mod permission for absolutely everything ‘major’ that you do. This includes anything from kidnapping to violent fights with consequences, rape, death, all that dark stuff that should actually come with warnings when you post; the more violent/gory it is, the more important the warning. If you do go ahead with something of that magnitude without mod permission, it’ll most likely get pulled, and you’ll get a warning. As well as our permission, you have to have the permission of the other player; do not, in any way, shape or form, do something so major to another person’s character without their go ahead. It is not cool, at all.
3. Remember the rules of the universe we’re playing in. It’s post-nuclear-war. Be reasonable, and realistic to that. For example, there would be absolutely no wandering beyond the borders of the Complexes; that’s the easiest way to get shot, and not in the arm, either. This is a tricky situation the characters are dealing with, it’s tense and in no way ideal; remember that while you’re writing. If you’re not sure about something, best bet is to just ask a mod; easiest way to avoid getting it wrong.
4. Don’t steal ideas from other people. Trust us, we’ve seen it happen, and it’s a pain in the ass, and is one of the quickest ways towards OOC tension and unpleasantness, and more than that, it just plain sucks and drives everyone crazy. This is a game where you need to be creative, so have fun with that; be different, and don’t copy from others. We understand this happens by accident, but don’t be an ass about it, really.
5. Not all mutants are aware that they are mutants, but this field of play comes with a strict stipulation. You may not apply for such a character without explicit mod permission, and it must be understood that we then give you the window when that character becomes aware of their abilities. If you apply for a character like this without our permission, it’s getting denied.
6. Don’t argue with us, please. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, share their character concepts, and create an engaging, captivating storyline. But if we don’t agree with something, honestly, we’re going to tell you, because being cryptic and avoidant is just going to grate on everyone’s nerves and kill the fun. So if we say “no”, we’re afraid that’s it. Just accept it, and move on, it’s better for everyone that way, right?
7. We don’t currently have an activity requirement, but be aware that we are going to notice whether or not you drop threads, don’t pull your weight like everyone else, or apply and then not do anything with a character that’s taking up space. That’s not cool, and it bothers everyone. We’ll get in contact with you to find out what’s going on, especially if you haven’t declared a hiatus (on that note, if you need a break, just let everyone know, nobody’s going to hate you for it, because real life? Exists, unfortunately). If you just slack and go quiet for long periods of time, just keep in mind that eventually we will tire of it, and for everyone’s sakes, we’ll pull your character, but we’ll give you a chance to pick up your activity again before it gets to that point.
8. This is a writing game. You must know how to write, obviously, and we will use your application as a basis for how well you can do this. Remember this includes things like spelling, grammar and so on; spell-check is a good tool, and everyone uses it. We don’t only look at quality of writing, but quantity too; when you jump into a thread, show some effort, really put the work in, otherwise it’s not fair to the player who posted the opener. Make an equal effort, match their size if you can, or even exceed it, go for broke. These are your characters, original creations, show us what makes them tick. We adore narrative, it really lets us take a look inside their heads; don’t just give us a bit of action description and then speech. That can get kinda dull, pretty fast.
9. No canon characters. This is an Original Character game, and we want to keep it that way. Don’t sidestep this rule by ripping off a fandom character’s personality and history, either, because someone is going to notice, and if it’s brought to our attention, we’re gonna be disappointed and will probably ask you to rewrite or just plain drop the character out of principle. We accept that you might love Peter Petrelli, but don’t use Milo Vetimiglia with mimicry powers and make him a bag of emo, we’ll pick that sort of thing up. No, really.
10. Absolutely no Sues/Stus. There’s nothing worse, and everyone hates them. Even if you don’t realise you’re doing it, the best thing to do is to run the character through a Mary Sue Litmus test just to be sure (just make sure to be brutal when you do it, or, you know, it’s kinda pointless). We will not accept any kind of Sue/Stu. If you don’t know what they are, just head to Wikipedia and type Mary Sue or Gary Stu in; it’ll give you a good idea of what not to do.
